Indirect Lending Underwriter



Primarily process credit applications received from the credit union’s indirect lending channel, and secondarily assist Loan Consultants with lending decisions.  The Indirect Lending Underwriter (ILU) is skilled in assessing the member’s financial picture and has the decision-making authority on loans.  The Underwriter works on behalf of the credit union to ensure a sound overall loan portfolio.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Facilitates the timely processing of loans to bring the application to the point that a decision can be reached to approve or deny the loan. 
  • Maintain a healthy working relationship with dealers, while balancing the needs of the member’s finances and the credit union portfolio.
  • Manage workflow/distribution of internet loans.
  • Troubleshoot funding issues
  • Assist other lending staff in decisions, procedures, etc.
  • Skilled in recognizing opportunities that we may be able to assist the member in saving money through the consolidation and/or refinancing of other debts
  • Determine collateral needs and payment plans
  • Ability to interpret Board Policies and Procedures involved in the approval process
  • Authorize changes in loan terms, waiver of payment, due date changes, etc.
  • Enter loan on computer and disburse funds as required
  • Develop an understanding of credit union history, philosophy, organization, bylaws and operational procedures
  • Assist in any other area as directed by supervisor
  • Must be flexible to work overtime as needed (may include weekends)
